Make Zoe’s succulent satay beef skewers at home and enjoy the kind of delicious meals guests at The Retreat NZ enjoy every day.  



  • Diced beef
  • Soy sauce 1½ cups
  • Garlic 1 TBS
  • Chili flakes 1-2 tsp
  • Ginger 1 TBS
  • Turmeric 1 TBS
  • Juice and zest of 1 lemon
  • Chopped parsley as much as you like

Dice beef in to bite sized cubes and thread onto wooden skewers. 

For the marinade, mix together the rest of the ingredients. 

Heat oven to 180 degrees celsius.

Place diced beef kababs in a oven proof tray and pour soy mixture over let marinade for at least half a hour.

Place tray in oven for 15 – 20 minutes until beef is cooked through and serve while hot.

These simple but delicious kababs go well with a fresh peanut satay sauce.




  • Peanut butter ½ cup 
  • Soy sauce 2 TBS 
  • White vinegar 1 TBS 
  •  Chilli flakes 2 tsp
  • Garlic 3 cloves 
  • Ginger 1 TBS 
  • 1 Lime juiced
  • Brown sugar 1-2 tsp 

Mix together all ingredients, adding a small splash of water at a time til mixed to your desired consistency.

Top with chopped peanuts and chilli flakes.
