Inspired by Matariki, the celebration of Maori New Year, these Kumara and Feta Crostini make the perfect appetiser or snack to share with friends or whanau.


1 baguette
¼ cup honey
1 block feta
2 Tbs cream cheese
2 tsp rosemary
1 tsp garlic
1 large kumara
½ tsp chili flakes
Salt and pepper
¼ cup olive oil



  1. Heat oven to 180C 
  2. Mix olive oil and crushed garlic in a bowl
  3. Cut baguette into rounds, brush with garlic oil and place in oven until toasted and crisp
  4. Cut kumara in to small cubes and coat with 1-2 Tbs honey and a dash of olive oil and bake in oven until soft (10- 15 mins )
  5. In a food processor whip feta, rosemary, cream cheese and a pinch of pepper until it forms a smooth spreadable consistency.  Add a small amount of oil to help thin your mixture if too thick
  6. Place honey and chilli flakes into a small pot and heat on low for approx. 5 mins until combined
  7. Once all elements are prepared and cooled it’s time to assemble, Spread a small amount of your whipped feta onto your crispy bread rounds, dot with some kumara cubes and drizzle with honey
  8. Serve and enjoy as an awesome appetiser or treat to share
